I worked with Soothe as my first position after college designing on their creative team. This page showcases some of my work done in their current and old branding, and I also worked alongside a hired agency to design assets around Soothe’s rebrand concept. The work for the rebrand will be available on its own page in the coming weeks.

I started with Soothe just after graduating from my undergraduate degree and just when I was getting started in my Masters degree. It was a great first position back in Los Angeles as well, because I was able to learn under everyone on the creative team during the day, while immersing myself with my studies at night. There were many parallels between what I was learning in class to what I was doing at work, and this felt awesome. I got to get my hands dirty with so many different aspects of design for a startup, and it gave me so much exposure as to where I saw myself excelling in the most. One of my favorite projects during my time with Soothe was working on a 10 week instagram giveaway campaign. We wanted loud fun colors to highlight our product line where we would be giving away one product each week. You can view some of the final posts above. Through this project, I was able to refine my gif-making skills and overall stop motion animation work.

At Soothe, I was also able to refine my photo editing skills. A lot of my day to day consisted of retouching photography for use online, and while I had basic photo editing skills, I would not have ever thought of myself as a retoucher. However, after working with Soothe, I am incredibly confident in my retouching abilities and learned so many cool tricks surrounding background replacement, isolation, white/color balancing, and more.

Another awesome skill I took away from my time with Soothe was email design. I had never really designed much around emails, I knew they were a great opportunity for brands to capture clients, but I did not know what went into designing a successful email campaign. Through working with Soothe, and specifically email guru Jaime Love, I learned so much about email design, designing for screens, best practices in email design, etc. I was then able to borrow from the gif-making skills I was developing and started spicing up my email headers.

Ultimately, I feel that I learned so much during my time with the Wellness startup. Not only did I refine my design practice, I was able to work with our copywriter and gain experience collaborating in that way, I was able to assist during photoshoots and learn what goes in behind the scenes, I was given the opportunity to work with an agency conducting a rebrand for us, and learn what goes into bringing another firm into the mix, I was able to meet our massage therapists and talk to them about UI problems and work with a UI designer to refine the flow, I was able to get an inside look at working with manufacturers and developing products for the line, and so much more. My time at Soothe was invaluable to my experience as a designer, and I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with such a talented creative team.
